ECHO - Vehicle Concepts

I was the Game and Art Director on the PC/PS4 game ECHO, produced and published by the Copenhagen Studio ULTRA ULTRA - Now sadly defunct. The game shipped in the fall of 2017.
Here is a brief look at my concept work on the vehicles of ECHO.
The game is available here:

Early concept art of London arriving. The ship featured an exhaust here, which I dropped as the ship would need to decelerate at this stage, if anything.

Very first attempt at what would become the character of London. It is clear that the idea was to have it as square as possible. :) The corner cut-off was meant to be missing Lander-Bay shielding.

The final design is a riff on the classic "Tech-Sandwich". The idea is that the bread-shielding in this case are slabs of moon/asteroid surface. -Maybe the ship is even built underground.

The Lander. This was the first version of the final asymmetrical shape, following some lost think-sketches on a graph-paper notepad. The idea is a dual propulsion system, one for vacuum and one for atmosphere.

Jocke Häggström then mocked it up in 3D and we started the process of paint-over/revision. This image is towards the end of that process.

A typical paintover. The thrust-vectoring engines had to work as landing gear as well as propulsion, making for an interesting design challenge.

First Lander-sketch from pre-production. It felt too conventional.

The Lander is best experienced in motion - The games Launch Trailer starts with a few shots of it landing on the planet. (You're welcome to check out the rest of the trailer as well)
